Learning from her mother, Andrea Lonjose, Zuni Pueblo artisan Tamara Pinto has taken off in this industry for her own talents. She has given us this incredible, life-like colorful butterfly. She hand cuts all the stone and shell creating pieces of wearable art. Instead of doing traditional Zuni cluster work, Tamera takes on the other art form known to the Zuni people - mosiac inlay.By mosiac inlaying her pieces they have a delicate and very feminine feel, along with some incredible workmanship. She has used precision cutting for each stone and shell with wings that are cut with rippling edges and inlaid into a low bezel. Each of the wings are then given texture through her skilled lapidary work.
Which gives added dimension and movement to the lightly etched stones. She has used gold lip mother of pearl, white mother of pearl, malachite and jet for the wings. Each wing has a little round cut of coral, malachite, turquoise and jet inlaid into each wing. Tamara impressed the judges when she was honored with a ribbon award at this years "Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial" event, taking home the prize in the "Lapidary" category. The mosaic inlay is set on a foundation of heavy gauge sterling silver.
The pendant is engraved with her hallmark "Tamera Pinto Zuni", the butterfly is her signature piece. I have included an 18 sterling silver chain necklace so you can wear this pendant immediately.I have hand polished this pendant with a soft cloth to a beautiful shine. That is the beauty of sterling silver, it will become dark and can be polished back to a beautiful shine time after time. DpufStanley Parker is a superb silversmith and uses only natural turquoise in his work. He uses repousse which is a metalworking technique whereby silver is shaped byhammering from the reverse side to create a design in relief - which you can see on This more contemporary style combines the traditional style of the past with thedesign and skills of the present.
